Indeed, the series Les Frustrés, published in Le Nouvel Observateur, was at the time the best indicator of French thinking and mores. With this drawing, 40 years before the #MeToo movement, it's clear that the cartoonist didn't hesitate to poke fun at rather heavy-handed methods of flirting. Claire Bretécher, the first author to win the Angoulême Grand Prix, is the subject of a major retrospective at the Musée de la bande dessinée in Angoulême, on view until March 8, 2026.
