JEAN GIRAUD BLUEBERRY The Man who was worth 500 000 Dollars (T.14), Dargaud 1973 Original plate n° 27, prepublished in Pilote n° 618 of September 9, 1971. Indian ink and white gouache on paper 39 × 50 cm (15.35 × 19.69 in.) The Man Who Was Worth 500,000 Dollars is the album where Jean Giraud is at his best. In this key scene, not only is Blueberry a captive, but he learns that the woman of his life is forced to marry the dreadful gobernador Lopez. What is striking is the virtuosity of the narration, which sets up, between wide shots and close-ups, the dialogue between the two men. And this succession of shots in the last strip, which leads us from the governor in great conversation to the jayhawkers who prepare the escape and finally, in the last square, to Chihuahua Pearl, the governor's bride. A marvel!
