JEAN-CLAUDE FOURNIER BIZU Dupuis Original illustration made for the cover pages of all the albums in the early 1980s. Signed. Graphite and colored pencil on paper 51.8 × 36 cm (20.39 × 14.17 in.) On the way to Ker Bizu and the forest of Broceliande! This large fresco, reproduced on the cover of the "Bizu" collection published by Dupuis, reflects all the tenderness of Jean-Claude Fournier's pioneering work. Of his hero, the author will specify that "he is one of my dreams, a kind of small korrigan". In addition to Bizu, Mukès, a mischievous mushroom, Schnockbul, the last and very hairy representative of the musical elves, who has the particularity of swarming daisies with each of his steps, or Lomig, a nice and not too smart brooding creature. Jean-Claude also gives pride of place to the Chevalier Potage and the Bilzigs, those mischievous spirits of the forest. While "Luskell va bag" ("Rock my boat"), a famous Breton rhyme, is being sung, hidden behind a bottle-boat containing "The Green Swan", a very discreet Spirou observes with curiosity this enchanting world. I had come across a book where the cover pages seemed to be a sheet of paper from a drawn desk pad. I found the idea original and proposed it to Philippe Vandooren, who was then the editorial director of Dupuis, for the cover pages of the "Bizu" collection. Besides the classic pencils, I even added some colored pencil sketches. I thought it wouldn't work, since these pages are usually printed in black and white for economic reasons. But no, he told me he had no problem with it. I know he loved Bizu. J.-C.F.
