MALIK - Lot 85
MALIK ARCHIE CASH Original cover of the Journal de Spirou n° 1992 of June 17, 1976. Signed. Gouache on paper 18 × 26.5 cm (7.09 × 10.43 in.) The appearance of the Archie Cash series by Malik and Jean-Marie Brouyère, published in 1971 in Spirou, is surprising. The hero's face, clearly inspired by the actor Charles Bronson, and his muscular body of a barbarian even seemed out of place in the Journal de Gaston Lagaffe and Boule & Bill. However, he stayed there for 16 years, bringing every year his share of hard boiled adventures with assumed violence. Malik is at ease in all graphic registers including gouache. He uses it with great dexterity, demonstrating here a daring choice of colours.
