Andréas - Lot 155
Andréas ANDREAS RORK Les Fantômes, Le Lombard 2012 Original front and back covers. Signed. Watercolor on paper 51 × 36 cm (20.08 × 14.17 in.) Originally from Germany, Andréas studied at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels. After working for a time as Eddy Paape’s assistant on *Luc Orient*, he created the series *Rork* in 1978 for *Le Journal Tintin*—a comic that stood in stark contrast to the weekly magazine’s usual fare for readers aged 7 to 77. His universe lies somewhere between the worlds of H.P. Lovecraft, the American comics of Bernie Wrightson, and the architectural universe of François Schuiten, his fellow artist at Claude Renard’s Atelier R. Always exploring formal experimentation, Andréas excels at visual framing, as in this illustration where his hero, Rork, watches a procession of strange beings making their way to the top of the hill.
