Graton - Lot 76
Graton JEAN GRATON MICHEL VAILLANT Le Lombard Original cover of the magazine *Fumo di China* No. 3, published by Alessandro Editore in October 1987. Signed. India ink on paper 21.5 × 29.3 cm (8.46 × 11.54 in.) It’s hard to realize just how internationally renowned Michel Vaillant was—so famous, in fact, that in Germany, the weekly magazine that published material from Éditions du Lombard was not called *Tintin* but *MV*, the hero’s own initials. This is an illustration created for the magazine published by Alessandro Editore, the Italian publisher of Lucky Luke, Gaston Lagaffe, Blueberry, and Blake and Mortimer, where the heart-stopping race car driver was also famous. With his beautiful, classic artwork—and as a connoisseur of F1 racing who frequented the paddocks—Jean Graton succeeded in making motorsports as interesting as it is thrilling.
