Gibrat
JEAN-PIERRE GIBRAT
Transparence, original unpublished illustration created in 2024.
Signed. Watercolor, acrylic inks and graphite on paper
30 × 36.4 cm (11.81 × 14.33 in.)
The creator of Le Sursis regularly creates works that he reserves exclusively for Galerie Daniel Maghen. A large part of the charm of his watercolors lies in the play of light and transparency, in which Gibrat takes advantage to let his graphite wander to his whim. In this awakening scene, Jeanne soberly emerges from her unmade bed, still foggy from sleep, in a half-tone cameo of colors: a silky reddish-brown enveloping the purple-blue of a slightly transparent negligee. The only frank color is the lipstick of the young woman, rebellious and sensual.
The primary quality of watercolor or acrylic inks is transparency... so when applied to Jeanne's nightie, its virtues are multiplied tenfold...
