Bilal - Lot 142
Bilal ENKI BILAL BUG (T.1), Casterman 2017 Original box #4 of plate #36. Signed. Acrylic and pastel on paper 22.8 × 29.6 cm (8.98 × 11.65 in.) Bug is Enki Bilal's most recent work. It depicts a near-future in which all the world's digital memory suddenly disappears - a planetary "bug" that plunges humanity into chaos. States, companies and individuals, deprived of their data, panic... In the midst of this disaster, one man unwillingly becomes the focus of all attention: Kameron Obb, shown here as an astronaut returning from a mission to Mars with a mysterious biological parasite lodged in his body. And this parasite seems to contain all of humanity's lost data... He's magnificently portrayed in this box, with the military man's short hair and square chin, shaken in his certainties and lost in his thoughts in the face of a world converted to transhumanism. This is a portrait in very "Bilalian" hues: the complexion of his face, with its patch of blue on the cheek, is the only warm material in a composition of clinical coldness.
