The art of René Follet (1931-2020) straddles the border between painting and comics, between the instinct of the sketch and the rigor of representation. A discreet draughtsman admired by the greatest (Tillieux, Hermann, Giraud...), he developed a nervous, fluid line, where each line breathes. His drawing, as in this gouache, vibrates with movement: sketched gestures, expressive faces, vivid landscapes, a beautiful long focal length opening onto a squadron of sailing ships... In this sublime illustration, there is an art of accuracy and breath.
