Will WILL ISABELLE Original illustration for a limited edition, distributed to guests at the press cocktail party of the Journal de Spirou thematic suite Le Moustique in 1985. Signed. India ink on paper 23.9 × 17.8 cm (9.41 × 7.01 in.) This beautiful drawing synthesizes the two sides of Will's work for Le Journal de Spirou and two ages of his life. It shows the characters of Tif et Tondu, heroes who belong to the Dupuis publishing house and who Will has carried on his shoulders since taking over the series in 1949. And then there are Isabelle and Calendula, the heroines of the Isabelle series Will created jointly with, excuse the pun, André Franquin, Raymond Macherot and Yvan Delporte in 1969. Twenty years separate the two male heroes from this female duo, represented by a child and a young woman, symbolizing the evolution of Franco-Belgian comics.
