Bill Watterson was a UFO in the sky of American comic strip art. A comet that lit up more than 2,000 newspapers for 10 years, precisely between 1985 and 1995, then preferred to disappear. The qualities of his Calvin and Hobbes, narrating the imaginative adventures of a 6-7 year-old child and his stuffed tiger, are exceptional: fresh, funny, poetic and wicked too. Certainly influenced by Charles Schulz's Peanuts, but also by Walt Kelly's Pogo, it remains so distinctive and intelligent that it's incomparable. The author has always refused all merchandising (t-shirts, postcards, mugs, badges, etc.) and all sales of his originals: only a few rare drawings that he has given to friends appear for sale, and they fetch stratospheric prices. This very fine commission is a unique opportunity to include this author in your collection. Georges Simonian
