It is with this episode, SPADS, that the sales of XIII
sales of XIII began to take off, becoming one of the
to become one of the most resounding bestsellers of the
comics. This sequence recalls the formation
of the amnesiac in the elite unit of the SPADS and this tone
a little "macho-viril" tone that William Vance had always
very comfortable with the military thing.
In this panel, there are few blacks: taking the example of
his contemporary Hermann, Vance lightens his inking
to leave more room for the colorist. He can
to dwell on what is the basis of his talent, like an unrivalled
unrivalled goldsmith: the atmosphere. And in this plate, where the soldiers
soldiers progress through perilous mangroves,
it is incredibly accurate.
A moving moment: the first appearance of sergeant Betty Barnowsky. I was then far from imagining that this sympathetic runner of men would become duchess of France.
