Batem BATEM THE MARSUPILAMI Marsu Production Original illustration created in 2026. Signed. Watercolor and India ink on paper 38.4 × 56.5 cm (15.12 × 22.24 in.) When Franquin published *Le Nid du Marsupilami* in *Spirou* in 1956, two years after the character’s creation, he truly elevated it to the status of a legend. For here we are no longer dealing with an animal invented for comic effect, like the Giff-Wiff from *Pim, Pam, and Poum* or Charles Degotte’s Flagada: thanks to the device of a filmed documentary narrated by Seccotine, Franquin endows it with a dimension that is both “scientific” and emotional. The Marsupilami is no longer just an animal character developed in the series—which was later continued by Batem with Franquin’s blessing—but rather a delightful, charming family with which everyone can identify. Didier Pasamonik In Palombian iconography and that of his iconic character, the Marsupilami, the nest is an indispensable symbol. Its ingenious architecture and the sense of absolute security and comfort it provides represent the ideal shelter. And while I never tire of drawing it from every angle, there’s still the small challenge of reinventing it each time, with new scenes and amusing interactions—whether colorful or simply filled with family warmth.
