Born in Venice in 1944, Rome-based Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri is one of the Italian masters of erotic comics, alongside Manara and Crepax. Morbus Gravis introduces Druuna, the heroine of a post-apocalyptic universe where disease, technology and decadence reign. Serpieri blends science fiction and sensuality, carnal realism and baroque symbolism. For him, Druuna is not a heroine but an ordinary woman, profoundly human, a symbol of purity in a corrupt world. Through her, he explores the life drive and carnal dimension of humanity. Inspired by the light of Caravaggio, but also by the inking process of a Palacios, he is one of the most appreciated signatures in the celebration of the female body in comics.
