Tillieux - Lot 202
Tillieux MAURICE TILLIEUX GIL JOURDAN Les 3 taches (T.8), Dupuis 1965 Original plate no. 16, prepublished in Le Journal de Spirou, September 12, 1963. India ink on paper 32 × 42.8 cm (12.6 × 16.85 in.) Thugs, on the orders of a mysterious sponsor, steal aerial photos of vital importance. Charged with recovering them, Gil Jourdan soon finds himself the target of two thugs as dangerous as they are clumsy. Following the trail of three enigmatic marks left at the crime scenes - the famous "three stains" - the detective and his inseparable accomplices, Libellule and Inspector Crouton, discover a case of revenge and manipulation. Here, Tillieux excels in his blend of taut detective story and burlesque, combining a sense of rhythm, delicious dialogue and a film noir atmosphere peppered with humor. Maurice Tillieux doesn't succumb to the design stylism of Franquin or Will. There's a desire for sobriety in the service of a scenario. Tillieux is a synthesis of Franquin, Simenon and Audiard. And Hergé, who was his favorite comic book artist.
