Frank Pé - Lot 191
Frank Pé FRANK PÉ ZOO Zoo 3, Dupuis 2007 Original plate no. 136, semi-direct coloring with its first stage in black and white Indian ink on paper. Signed. Colored inks on paper 30.9 × 42.1 cm (12.17 × 16.57 in.) First stage: 36.8 × 48.8 cm In this sequence, Manon is looking for Hector, the tame bear and companion of old painter Buggy. The animal, sensing the end of his master, escapes and takes refuge. Frank Pé translates this tension into a stripped-down mise-en-scène: frames widen, the scenery empties, the ochre and sepia tones darken. When Manon calls him, her voice is lost in the silence - Hector goes off to die, true to his instincts and the love he felt for Buggy. This unusually emotionally intense panel symbolizes the end of a benevolent, poetic world, engulfed by death and melancholy. Frank Pé is at his best.
