Marini - Lot 134
Marini ENRICO MARINI RAPACES Rapaces 2 (T.2), Dargaud 2000 Original plate no. 51. Signed. India ink and colored inks on paper 33 × 44.5 cm (12.99 × 17.52 in.) Part vampire myth revisited, part critique of contemporary society, the Rapaces series is rich in the erudite contributions of the highly cultured Jean Dufaux. Here - and this is his originality - he blends the standards of Bram Stocker-style fantasy with a line - that of Enrico Marini - of great clarity, a world away from the gothic aspect usually attributed to vampire worlds. The other original aspect is the story of how, under the guise of a class struggle between predators, a policewoman, somewhat lost in the face of the enormity of what she discovers, takes the measure of the decadence of this occult power, but also of the easily corruptible society around her, in a mixture of desire, brutality and sensuality. This Sapphic scene, with its scorching heat, is perfectly composed around the round arch of the window, the only cool touch on an incandescent page. It ends with a kiss, far from the chaste depictions of Hollywood tradition.
