Ralph Meyer is a virtuoso of rhythmic changes. He proves it here, with repetitive mini-frames illustrating Oz's gradual awakening. Then, his injunction to shoot accelerates time, before the snapping of the horses' bridles in a small cartridge case (like a movie clapperboard), sets off the final frenzy in a very wide backdrop. Three strips. Three temporalities. Three bounces. The reader receives these variations like an uppercut.
In my opinion, one of the most spectacular pages in the diptych. R.M.
