Sister Oz has just set fire to Dr. Prairie's medical practice. The building burns an incandescent, almost blinding red. But Jonas Crow steps in, brandishing his gun and glaring at us. The setting up of two very distinct shots - that of Jonas and that of the blaze - creates a contrast that accentuates the spectacular effect of the image. I often think of a cover as a poster. Few elements and strong color contrasts for maximum effectiveness. This is the case here, with Jonas's instantly recognizable silhouette against a backdrop of fire. R.M.
