Juillard - Lot 78
Juillard ANDRÉ JUILLARD THE 7 LIVES OF THE SPARROWHAWK Le Temps des chiens (T.2), Glénat Original illustration, researched for the album cover in 1984. Signed. India ink, wash and graphite on paper 29.7 × 21 cm (11.69 × 8.27 in.) Reconciliation was achieved at the altar, and France stopped tearing each other apart in the name of religion: Henri IV brought peace. A precarious and fragile repose, with passions still running high. At court, the Italians were maneuvering between Catholics and Protestants. Henri IV, although unaware of it, is already crossing paths with Ravaillac. Meanwhile, far from the intrigues of the palace, the people live bending their backs under the yoke of the lords. In Auvergne, Thibaud de Bruantfou doesn't hesitate to throw his molosses at an unfortunate barefooted beggar. Still very young, Guillemot and Ariane play at fighting under the protective gaze of Baron de Troïl and a mysterious masked vigilante. After a pre-publication in Circus in 1984, Le Temps des chiens is about to be released as an album. What to put on the cover? One of André Juillard's first pieces of research, forsaking the official story, featured Troïl's heirs riding through the countryside. In another drawing, Masquerouge is watching them. In yet another, the two children try to escape Bruantfou's molosses. In the end, the artist chose the sequence of the unfortunate peasant, naked and with his back to the ground, heroically confronting the pack of beasts.
