FEATHER IN THE WIND
L'Oiseau-Tonnerre (T.2), Dargaud
Original illustration, project for a silkscreen print

19 × 19 cm (7.48 × 7.48 in.)
The art of synthesis. With the release of L'Oiseau-Tonnerre, the second volume of Plume aux vents, on the horizon, André embarks on a series of research projects. Playing on the perfect balance between shots and the clarity of the image, here he showcases a full-length, majestic Ariadne. An Ariadne who has become a woman, and who no longer seems moved by feelings of pain and sorrow. What is she thinking? Who is she thinking about? Does she still believe in a better future, where hope and love will finally find their place? Ariane is smiling, which, let's face it, is unusual for her. In the background, a trio of Iroquois pay her no attention, speeding through a cloud of dust towards an unknown goal. Behind them, a third reading level... nature still wild, a lake or river, rocks and woods. In the sky, a few birds take flight. The illustration, conceived in 1996, was originally intended for a silkscreen project for Daniel Maghen Editions. It will remain unpublished as it stands, although some of its elements will be used in a new silkscreen print (see lot 70).
I'm delighted that my characters are going to get some fresh air and head for America. They'll be disembarking in a wilderness that's completely untouched. A.J.
