It's not easy to get around in the middle of winter in the French countryside of the mid-17th century. It's bitterly cold and the snow, more gray than white, covers everything. The trees are bare and nature is dormant. In contrast, the yellow of the sky accentuates this feeling of cold and solitude. Wrapped in her cape, teeth clenched, Ariane holds her mount by the bridle. Her pace is slow but determined, and nothing seems likely to dampen her resolve now that she has learned that her daughter, whom she thought dead fifteen years earlier, has survived. Now back on the Old Continent, the woman in the prime of her life has only one goal in mind: to find her. Nothing and no one can stop her!
A pure hero can be a pain in the ass. To be human, people have to have flaws. Even Ariane. I often criticize her chagrined mood. At first, I was annoyed by how angry she was, even though she had good reason to be. With her brother, she behaved appallingly. I wanted to tell her to calm down. Today, she's more mature, but still sanguine. A.J.
