Born in 1969, Isabelle is a series that first had to be tested as short stories in the Journal de Spirou before being published as full-fledged albums. And even when an album publication was envisaged, it could change collection and take on different formats. This was the case for Isabelle, who was little considered when she made her debut with Dupuis. Which explains this kind of incipit, which helps to situate the characters and characterize them in relation to each other, so as to welcome new readers. It's in this kind of panel that we learn that Kalendula is Calendula's grandmother, the fiancée of Uncle Hermes, and that Isabelle is the 7th-generation great-grandniece of the uncle in question... Which gives us a gallery of portraits of the series' main characters.
