Will - Lot 45
Will WILL TIF AND TONDU La Tentation du bien (T.38), Dupuis 1989 Original plate no. 44, prepublished in Le Journal de Spirou n° 2672 of June 28, 1989. Signed. India ink on paper 35.8 × 46.3 cm (14.09 × 18.23 in.) This is a historic plate, made all the more remarkable by the fact that Will is drawn in the very last panel. Why historic? Because it's the last panel Will drew for the series! Because the world of comics has changed. In addition to Isabelle, which he now coordinates with his friends Franquin and Delporte, a new horizon is opening up for him: the "graphic novels" of the Aire Libre collection, where he, the colorist, can finally produce plates in direct color, obliged until now to leave them to the small hands of Studio Leonardo, which had exclusive color rights for Dupuis editions. Stephen Desberg delivers a final story about an NGO which, under the pretext of doing good, drifts towards sectarian practices. With this kind of somewhat political subject, Desberg has found his niche and will soon be racking up a string of successes. But Will wants to close this chapter of his life. He gives himself a final treat on the last page, drawing one of his favorite Midi landscapes, while a sleek Ferrari takes his heroes on new adventures... So long, guys! In the blink of an eye - materialized by a sign on a wall - he announces the forthcoming publication of his album, a slightly erotic Aire Libre: Le Jardin des désirs. For the time being, he throws down his pen with undisguised pleasure!
