TIF ET TONDU
Passez muscade (T.6), Dupuis 1958
Original illustration announcing the next Plein Gaz album,
with color annotations on spine. Signed. India ink on paper
24.9 × 35.9 cm (9.8 × 14.13 in.)
Plein Gaz is undoubtedly one of Tif et Tondu's most popular albums. Firstly, because it introduces an adventure genre that until now had belonged only to the Journal Tintin and Michel Vaillant: car racing. And we love cars in Spirou: let's not forget that Jidéhem and Franquin run the "Starter" column. Franquin, like Jidéhem and Will, liked to draw the most modern cars. In those days, they were bodied by the best Italian designers. In Will's creations (Franquin, like Will, often invented their own models), we can see the influence of the dynamic curves of Pinin Farina and Scaglietti, the coachbuilders of the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta "Tour de France". Will has indulged himself. On the back of the document, a factor of authenticity, are Will's color indications for the Dupuis chromists. A stamp describes the industrial process: the plates must first be corrected, then translated and lettered (for the Flemish edition of Spirou, Robbedoes), and finally colored.
