Le Grand Combat (T.13), Dupuis 1968
Original plate no. 25, prepublished in Le Journal de Spirou
n° 1513, April 13, 1967. Signed. India ink on paper
34 × 43.6 cm (13.39 × 17.17 in.)
You have to imagine the context of this story's publication in Spirou in 1967: science fiction and fantasy were virtually absent from the good-humored weekly, except through gentle adventure series like Les Petits Hommes or Johan & Pirlouit. Here, Rosy begins a story in which Choc has found a way to enter people's dreams, in other words, to reach them at their most intimate. The only way to combat these intrusions is through spirituality, which is strong enough to counter the negativity of Choc's enterprise, our heroes' nemesis. This Rosy story marks the most surreal period in the series, which begins with La Poupée ridicule (1965) and ends with the arrival of Tillieux in 1969. It was an opportunity for Will to create unforgettable atmospheres and designs, with contrasting blacks and whites and incredible elegance and originality.
