JUILLARD - Lot 91
JUILLARD ANDRÉ JUILLARD THE 7 LIVES OF THE SPARROWHAWK La Marque du Condor (T.7), Glénat 1991 Original plate no. 26. Signed. India ink on paper 32.3 × 45 cm (12.72 × 17.72 in.) The mark of a great Franco-Belgian scriptwriter is to be able to distill a great deal of information into a single plate, and in this sequence, Cothias succeeds perfectly. In this scene, a trap is set for Sparrowhawk, and the Condor, proud and haughty, is the epicenter. He is about to be executed, and we hope that the Red Mask, in order to save him, will find himself trapped in this mousetrap with which the Condor is associated. With perfect mastery of narration, Juillard alternates shots and focal points, punctuating his panels with the Condor's black pourpoint, the famous pourpoint he refuses to leave behind. A page like this makes us realize just how much we'll miss his genius.
