HERMANN - Lot 77
HERMANN HERMANN JEREMIAH Zone frontière (T.19), Dupuis 1996 Original plate no. 28. Watercolor on paper 32.5 × 43 cm (12.8 × 16.93 in.) This is a key moment in the saga of Jeremiah, as the author creates his first album in this series in direct color - Hermann had already experimented with the technique in Sarajevo-Tango shortly before. Our heroes find themselves in a jungle of scrap metal on the edge of Indian territory. A militia operates there, led by a particularly corrupt sheriff who, having got hold of a strange convoy that he hopes to profit from, keeps a watchful eye on its comings and goings. The result is a series of alternating shots in which Hermann, using a fine, sober color palette, perfectly plays with shadows and the organization of his shots in a lightly nourished chromatic range and dissonant colors that are uniquely his own.
