WILL - Lot 55
WILL WILL ISABELLE Intégrale (T.2), Dupuis 2007 Original illustration created in 1990. Signed. Watercolor on paper 34 × 45 cm (13.39 × 17.72 in.) This watercolor demonstrates Will's talent. Isabelle crosses a landscape of mangroves and fantastic trees worthy of Palombia. This proximity to Franquin's world is not accidental: Will and Franquin started out together in Jijé's studio, and Will was to assist Franquin on Spirou's sets. Will learns the rudiments of color and the decorative fantasy of the line inherited from Dufy and Matisse; he also learns to sprinkle his drawings with little comic details that are a delight for the eye and the mind, every time. These include the eyes in the crevices of the tree, the bird, a distant cousin of the Cracoucass, and the orchid in the foreground, whose warm color matches the dress of the apprentice witch.
