ROCHETTE JEAN-MARC ROCHETTE Scarf of clouds over the Écrins, original illustration created in 2023. Signed. Watercolor on paper 60.8 × 46.3 cm (23.94 × 18.23 in.) A huge cloud suddenly barring the horizon above the Pointes de Pie Bérarde and the Dôme de Neige is literally surreal! I painted it without presuppositions, like an abstract composition. I did a lot of work on the blue of the sky in watercolor and pastel to make it particularly intense. Watercolor isn't an exact science: every time you make a mistake, you get tired, you despair, and then suddenly things fall into place and the solution appears. You have to look at the result with a clean ego, because in the end, the artist's only merit is to have insisted! J.-M.R.
