CUZOR - Lot 52
CUZOR STEVE CUZOR HENRY FLEMING'S BATTLE Dupuis 2024 Original plate no. 90. Signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 48 × 62 cm (18.9 × 24.41 in.) Wilson and Henry have gone to fetch water and are heading deep into the forest. Steve Cuzor's play on framing and lighting, which varies from one frame to the next while always leaving plenty of room for the background, keeps us going in circles, just like his characters. And yet, Henry returns to the spot he passed the day before, near the young soldier dead against a tree trunk. Does he see him again? In the first part of the panel, I was careful not to put any markers that could be found from one frame to the next. I wanted us to lose our sense of distance and time. Between the first and third squares, have we gone fifteen meters or two kilometers? How much time has passed? Leaving these questions open also meant closing the dialogues in each square. S.C.
