SALA DAVID SALA Le Joueur d'échecs, Casterman 2022 Original illustration for the bookplate accompanying the deluxe edition of Le Joueur d'échecs. Signed. Colored inks, watercolor, gouache and graphite on paper 48.9 × 76.5 cm (19.25 × 30.12 in.) For this image, created for the deluxe version of Le Joueur d'échecs, I created a contrast between the calm, composed figure and the sharp, unstructured motifs in the background: a way of representing Mr. B's mental state. The coloring was done with inks and watercolors, with the addition of gouache. The gouache, which I didn't use for the album, adds the extra texture and density I wanted for this illustration.
