HERMANN
HERMANN BERNARD PRINCE Cover design published in Le Journal de Tintin for the 1972 pre-publication of L'Oasis en flamme. India ink on paper 23.8 × 30.2 cm (9.37 × 11.89 in.) First appearing in Le Journal Tintin in 1966, Bernard Prince was one of the series written by Greg when he was editor-in-chief of the 7 to 77-year-old weekly. "It had become a more violent journal, and there was even a bit of sex, because we had to stick to the reality of the public's tastes..." his editor, Raymond Leblanc, was to note a few years later. It has to be said that the "new Hollywood", with the abandonment of the "Hays Code", which was a veritable censorship organization, had changed its tone with directors like Mike Nichols, Sam Peckinpah, Dennis Hopper and Stanley Kubrick. Greg and Hermann are rightly inspired by them. Greg's good fortune was to have discovered in Hermann, a young interior designer nourished by American culture, a prodigious draughtsman and a genius inker.
