VANCE WILLIAM VANCE MARSHAL BLUEBERRY Mission... - Lot 69 - Daniel Maghen Enchères et Expertises
VANCE WILLIAM VANCE MARSHAL BLUEBERRY Mission Sherman (T.2), Alpen Publishers 1993 Original plate no. 42 with gouache coloring. Signed. India ink on paper 36.5 × 49.9 cm (14.37 × 19.65 in.) In this key plate of the triptych, colored by the artist's wife, Petra, Marshal Blueberry, who has been the victim of attack after attack since the beginning of the album, seems to be definitively "out of action" this time. The scene is spectacular: William Vance, between precise line drawing and sketching, achieves a beautiful inking that perfectly outlines the shapes. The camera swirls between general shots and close-ups, between field and counter-field, between plunge and counter-plunge. All this in a single, dizzying plate, the result of a perfect osmosis between William Vance and Jean Giraud, two of the greatest authors of their time.
