BAR2 JOE BAR TEAM Volume 1, Vents d'Ouest, 1990 Original plate no. 38, prepublished in Moto Journal in 1989-1990. Signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 33 × 41.2 cm (12.99 × 16.22 in.) The moral of this wordless - but not soundless! - could be summed up as follows: the intensity of the noise emitted by a motorized two-wheeler is inversely proportional to its speed. "And I wonder how this gag popped into my head. But it works like a charm! At least that's my very modest opinion. However, lest it be misunderstood by all, it may be worthwhile to clarify a few points. In the first box, the speeding machine is a powerful and speedy Kawasaki 900. And the WOOOSH refers not to the sound of its engine, but to the discreet sound of its penetration of the air. In the next box, the speed decreases but the noise increases. We're talking here only about a dusty Malaguti, but we all know that the owners of these tiny cylinders made a point of tampering with their exhaust pipes. Next up is a Harley-Davidson chopper driven by the most amorphous of bikers. But if, in his disgust for speed, our man is even slower than the youngster in the previous square, his Harley's mufflers make a much louder racket. And in the last square, the bike is all the slower for having leaked a connecting rod. This doesn't seem to amuse its owner, as the insults he utters are even more thunderous than the Harley's exhausts."
