BAR2
BAR2 JOE BAR TEAM Volume 1, Vents d'Ouest, 1990 Original plate no. 44, prepublished in Moto Journal in 1989-1990. Signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 37.5 × 45.2 cm (14.76 × 17.8 in.) Another perfect illustration of the bad faith that Bar2, in Joe Bar Team, has made his main comic device. "As everyone knows, motorcycling is not without its risks. And even the most experienced riders are regularly confronted with fear. And without fear, there's no such thing as bad faith. Because it's this bad faith which, if skilfully wielded, could save us from losing face the day when, under the mocking gaze of our rivals, fear makes us commit a cowardly act. In this board, it's not so much fear as an excess of optimism that drives Edouard off the road. A piloting error, in short. As it happens, for competitors like my four lascars, a piloting error is just as damaging to a reputation as a moment of cowardice. That's why Edouard has no choice but to take refuge in bad faith. The quality of the dialogue on this panel is also noteworthy. Right up to the last panel, it's all about the endless MerdMerdMerdMerd that accompanies Édouard on his off-piste ride. And that's probably why I've never been invited to take part in a literary program. Which left me deeply bruised."
