BAR2
BAR2 JOE BAR TEAM Volume 1, Vents d'Ouest, 1990 Original plate no. 14, prepublished in Moto Journal in 1989-1990. Signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 34 × 39 cm (13.39 × 15.35 in.) In this plate, the action takes place in the city, which contradicts what Bar2 explained earlier. Clearly, the Joe Bar Team creator's "cases of conscience" are of variable geometry!... "Not so much. It's one thing to show four brainless people having a go at each other in town, it's quite another to show one pissed-off handful getting to their destination as quickly as possible. The latter is a little more acceptable, and at least a lot less perilous and uncivilized than the former. In this panel, the squares that show Jeannot using the city streets as a racetrack are there to make readers understand that my four lascars don't see themselves as mere bikers, but as genuine racing drivers. And the long dialogue in the last panel, with its motorsports jargon, is clear proof of this. And from a purely graphic point of view, I really like the last panel, with its complex setting and numerous secondary characters. It seems to me that I've succeeded in giving each of the extras a real personality, a singular physiognomy, and all my colleagues will tell you that this exercise takes time and is by no means easy."
