TARDI
JACQUES TARDI LA DÉBAUCHE, GALLIMARD 2000 Original plate n°19. India ink on paper 32,5 x 44 cm (12,8 x 17,32 in.) This plate is emblematic of Tardi and his collaboration with the great novelist Daniel Pennac. The Debauchery reflects well his commitment to anarchism and anti-capitalism. A story of revenge, of unemployment (it is there, the debauchery, it consists in laying off staff) provoked by unscrupulous company managers only motivated by profit. We find the Parisian settings that Tardi is so fond of, especially in this scene of caging at the Museum, where Homo Sapiens is reduced to his primate condition. The play of field/counter-field with the bars of the cage is a successful exercise of style, simply magnificent!
