JUILLARD
ANDRÉ JUILLARD BLAKE AND MORTIMER Tribute to Jacobs, original plate published in Le Journal de Tintin n° 482 of December 4, 1984. Signed. India ink on paper 40 × 54.5 cm (15.75 × 21.46 in.) Historical plate where André Juillard imagines the heroes of Edgar P. Jacobs returned to the place of their exploits: the Great Pyramid. They wander through the streets of Cairo without knowing that Nasir - who has also aged well and has not been seen since - is secretly watching them. He has become the initiate of Sheikh Abdul Razek, who has made him the guardian of the Mystery, and who, for his part, has not given up a wrinkle to eternity. We find here the "real" Juillard, out of any imitation of the master, Juillard who would have done a "Blake and Mortimer by" in a way. Does he know, in this 1984 plate, that he will one day succeed the hermit of the Bois des Pauvres and continue the adventures of his heroes? Probably not. But Abdul Razek has more than one trick up his sleeve I had difficulty to separate myself from this plate published in Tintin. First incursion into the world of Blake & Mortimer: I plunged with delight into The Mystery of the Great Pyramid. I felt the need to give some news about Nasir, who inexplicably disappeared after The Yellow Mark. This earned me a word of thanks from Jacobs. André Juillard
