WILLIAM VANCE BRUCE J. HAWKER Press Gang (T.3), Le Lombard 1987 Original plate n° 2, prepublished in Le Journal de Tintin n° 496 of March 12, 1985. Signed. India ink on paper 35.2 × 49 cm (13.86 × 19.29 in.) This is a plate from Bruce Hawker, William Vance's favorite series. He did this story for the weekly women's magazine Femmes d'Aujourd'hui, to which he remained faithful for several decades, publishing both Bob Morane and Ramiro. Vance is in his element: marine scenery, rigging, uniforms and colorful characters such as Lieutenant Skull (The Skull is one of the first Brussels bookstores for comics and science fiction at the Pont du Germoir in Brussels, where William Vance had his habits). The scenario of the first two episodes is inspired by traditional stories of privateers. Vance will quickly resort to a scriptwriter, André-Paul Duchâteau, from the third episode on.
