JACQUES TARDI Le Dupondt sans peine, Albin Michel 1977 Tribute to Dupont and Dupond, original illustration. Signed. India ink on paper 40.5 × 29.5 cm (15.94 × 11.61 in.) Tardi has always been fascinated by Hergé as well as by Jacobs. From Hergé, he has retained the legibility, notably by recovering his lowercase lettering and a certain form of caricature, which also feeds on the work of graphic artists like Gus Bofa. From Jacobs, he adopts the cameo tones that the hermit of the Bois des Pauvres had designed for Hergé. In addition to this, it was published by Casterman, the historical publisher of Tintin, during the master's lifetime. This kind of drawing is as much an exorcism as a tribute. It is a good parody of one of the artist's favorite albums, The Cigars of the Pharaoh, for which he had also made a version of the sequence on the sect of the Brothers of Kih-Oskh, the criminal organization led by Rastapopoulos specialized in opium trafficking.
