MULATIER
JEAN MULATIER Movie faces, La Sirène 1993 Clint Eastwood, original illustration, accompanied by its original coloring signed in pencil on matte film. Signed. Graphite on Schoeller paper 19.7 × 15.9 cm (7.76 × 6.26 in.) Colorization: 16 × 20.7 cm (6.30 × 8.14 in.) As soon as his first Grandes gueules were published in Pilote, Paris-Match ran a double-page headline in May 1971: "Mulatier, the new champion of the portrait-charge". "A deformation more resembling than the reality, adds the magazine ELLE, a portrait of souls! In 1976, the German weekly Der Spiegel was enthusiastic and entrusted him with its cover, 4 weeks in a row: "His caricatures are going around the world!" In the USA, Esquire magazine, under the pen of its D.A. Jean-Paul Goude, speaks of "the new art of caricature... A department in the history of art". And in Italy, Sergio Leone himself signs the preface of Grandes Gueules Superstars of which Mulatier is the co-author: "Thank you for the love you put in your drawings, it's a bit like the Louvre of the caricature! All the great ones of this world would like to hang on your walls. And those who are not there - it's a case of saying it - lose face." Sergio Leone, Rome, October 1981.
