GIRAUD
JEAN GIRAUD BLUEBERRY The Lone Eagle (T.3), Dargaud 1967 Original plate n°15, prepublished in Pilote n°268 of December 10, 1964. Signed. India ink on paper 30.5 × 39 cm (12.01 × 15.35 in.) Here we are once again in these chases between Indians and bluecoats as Jean-Michel Charlier liked them. A story where cunning plays a determining role, putting Quanah-n'a-qu'un-oeil, an apache infiltrated in the troop, in front of a Blueberry who suspects the Indian of playing a double game. In this third album of the series, Jean Giraud, alias Gir, gradually detaches himself from the influence of Jijé, his mentor and the European reference of the realistic western of this time. His setting is solid and Giraud compensates for his fast brush drawing with an incredible variety in the line and a rhythm, between wide shots and close-ups, fields and backgrounds, which tell well the progress of the troop. As a bonus, one of the most beautiful portraits of Blueberry from this period.
