ANDRÉ JUILLARD BLAKE AND MORTIMER The Voronov Machination (T.14), Blake and Mortimer 2000 Original plate n°51. Signed. India ink and graphite on paper 37.9 × 50 cm (14.92 × 19.69 in.) The Voronov Machination is Juillard's first album in the Blake and Mortimer series, succeeding the duo Ted Benoit and Jean Van Hamme, who had achieved great success. But Ted Benoit is meticulous as Jacobs could be, and Dargaud does not want to wait so long. Therefore, a second team is set up. After a casting, Yves Sente and André Juillard are chosen. What is remarkable about Juillard is that he manages to handle complex images, overflowing with details, while remaining perfectly readable. This is possible thanks to a virtuoso management of perspectives and focal lengths, first deep, then short at the moment of the accident and the phone call - because Mortimer has understood in this key scene the solution of the enigma - to his friend Francis Blake, obviously unreachable, without which there would be no suspense... From Covent Garden to Hampstead, a very dense and eventful page. Cars in situation, bike and little girl, all this is not simple, especially the little girl I took the first box for a large screen print enhanced by hand with Blake and Mortimer in the star. One of the best pages for one of my favorite albums. André Juillard
