PATRICE PELLERIN THE SPIRIT Original cover for the Journal de Spirou n°3464 of September 1st, 2004. Signed. Gouache and acrylic inks on paper 30.9 × 41 cm (12.17 × 16.14 in.) Yann de Kermeur in all his splendor. This full-length portrait was done for a cover of Spirou magazine, which was pre-publishing his adventures. We will notice his scar on his face which differentiates him from Eric le Rouge, a secondary character of Redbeard that Patrice Pellerin drew at the time of Jean-Michel Charlier's death. Gun, bayonet, cartridge, gun belt, gaiters, and his eternal blue jacket: all the paraphernalia of the King of France's privateer is gathered, he only lacks the gun. From the beginning of the series, I had fixed almost all the details of the Sparrowhawk's costume and his armament. And soon enough I got into the habit of putting him in boots, like those worn by the dragoons, which can be slipped on and tied like gaiters over his shoes, rather than cavalry boots, which are not at all suited to walking or fighting on foot. P.P. At my very first reading, a long time ago, I discovered this very handsome man, a proud knight, everything is there, in this superb portrait An icon of a man! There was also a very rich gallery of so-called secondary characters, including modern female characters, thinking and free women. It was a change for the historical comics of those years.
