The Sparrowhawk is depicted here on the tiller of the Grand Hunier, armed with a semi-boat gun. A classic, this magnificent illustration alone symbolizes the world in which the king's privateer evolves. A maritime universe made of dangers, pursuits, fights, treacheries, which imply the qualities that Patrice Pellerin attributes to his hero: bravery, courage, loyalty, honesty, exemplarity. The Sparrowhawk does not hesitate to climb alone to the top of his ship to scan the horizon and watch for danger or land in sight.
The drawing was to be used as a cover but also as a poster and advertisement for the series. What could be more visible than a big yellow sky. Besides, this color is so much easier to see than blue or grey. P.P.
