David B's Ascension of High Evil is without question one of the most important series of the 1990s. Its six issues in a single volume really launched (along with Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis) the L'Association label, of which David B was a founder. It is also the work that launched the autobiography movement in France. Finally, it is a great book that speaks, with great intelligence, of the illness of the author's older brother, epilepsy. Awarded an Alph'art in Angoulême and an Eisner Award in San Diego, it is one of the key works of the French comic book heritage.
