TILLIEUX
MAURICE TILLIEUX CÉSAR AND ERNESTINE What a job! (T.3), Dupuis 1972 Original cover with its coloured tracing paper. Signed.India ink on paper 24 × 33.5 cm (9.45 × 13.19 in.) With Hergé, there is the "great work", Tintin, and then Quick & Flupke, a story about kids which is probably more representative of Hergé's spirit, of his playfulness. Tillieux's Gil Jourdan (and Felix before that) are peaks of humour and graphic efficiency, and then there's Caesar & Ernestine, which confronts the adult Caesar with a little girl, Ernestine, who is the offspring of his neighbouring cop, seen here in this drawing. A little pest with a keen intelligence, who turns the adult on his head. You might think there's something personal (Tillieux had daughters and really a policeman as a neighbour) in this Franco-Belgian Family Strip. There were only four albums of this series and therefore four original covers. It is thus a very rare piece.
