Le Son de la musique, original illustration made in 2020. Signed. India ink, black watercolour and white gouache on paper
43 × 57 cm (16.93 × 22.44 in.)
An illustration that harkens back to the famous black-and-white photographs of legendary jazz musicians in concert. The expression on Jazz's face clearly emphasizes his concentration, his state of mind, and his feelings about the music. At that moment, nothing else matters to him. Roger focuses the light on the upper part; more precisely, he clearly indicates that it comes from the top right, a light that bathes the magic of the moment. The black watercolour technique is discreet here. The shades and gradations of grey enrich the drawing and give it volume, while serving to support the atmosphere.
"I see this illustration of Jazz Maynard playing the trumpet and I think of Chet Baker, our absolute inspiration for the musical side of the character. We couldn't think of any other jazz musician if we wanted to give our protagonist a certain charisma with that vulnerable air. "Raule
