"At the very beginning of my collaboration with Hubert on Ténébreuse, I did a rough depicting Islen in profile amidst the ruins. It was a kind of test, but in the end it was so accurate that I took the composition and reworked it into a lithograph. Musicians and painters take a similar approach, imagining different variations on the same work. After all, why shouldn't I be able to turn an image around and add a different note to each interpretation? So this image is a second variation on my original rough. I really like this composition, with the diagonal separating the black and white areas, and Islen, slightly off-center, in neither."
